Instructor Lineage
Mitsuyo Maeda -> Carlos Gracie -> Hélio Gracie -> Frederico Pimentel -> Herbert Maeda

Born in Brazil in 1987, Herbert Maeda is of Japanese and Brazilian descent, with his family line tracing back to Mitsuyo Maeda (Count Koma) and the Maeda Samurai Clan. Mitsuyo Maeda was a student of Jigoro Kano (the founder of Judo), and he famously taught jiu-jitsu to the Gracie family in Brazil, with Grand Master Carlos Gracie as his first student.

Carlos Gracie and his younger brother Hélio developed the BJJ style. Hélio taught Frederico Pimentel, who later graduated Herbert to his black belt.
